Artist Statement
A persistent thread through my art practice has been the exploration of the architectural qualities of a given site, along with its social and historical significance. I seek ways of locating the viewer within the space so that they develop a heightened sense of awareness of the space itself and their presence in it.

Frequently, I use written text as a way of delineating the space and as a way of evoking a connection between the viewer and others who have occupied the site in the past. The text has the appearance of conventional signage familiar to such a site. However, the words disrupt, prompting the view to become the subject in the space – the seeing or imagining I.

About
The idea of having other people to collaborate with just gives it a whole other dimension for me and probably is the thing that really got me on board the project, especially working with people from different cultural backgrounds and art forms. For me having other art forms brings in very different ways of looking and experiencing cultures. It is very much beyond just an intellectual understanding or a restatement of the timeline (of Federation). This project is very much a multi-dimensional exercise and because we are also dealing with the process of how we’re making this work, it becomes more than just a final product.

I’m starting to get some sense of the possibilities, of convergence and overlays, of what each of us might bring. I think some of the stories that we bring might then get translated into sound, music, visual imagery and language, which will then, in some way, be brought into this space where we are performing the event.
