Deborah
Kayser is a vocalist who has worked consistently in areas as diverse
as Early Music and Ensemble singing to Classical Contemporary music
and improvisation, providing her with the opportunity to explore
new vocal possibilities and develop a new expressive idiom. As a
solo guest artist she has performed with Australias leading Early
Music ensembles, and as a member of both the Elision and Libra Contemporary
Ensembles, she tours regularly both within Australia and overseas.
With Elision and Libra, Kayser has premiered works by local and
overseas composers including Richard Barrett, Volker Heyn, Michael
Finnisy, David Young, Chris Dench and Liza Lim.
She
has sung in Theatre and Opera roles in works by Richard Vella, Michael
Smetanin and Liza Lim, and with the companies Chamber Made, Theatre
Works, Elision and Aphids. Last year, Kayser performed the leading
role in Lims new opera Yue Ling Jie with Elision for the
Telstra Adelaide Festival, a role for which she drew rave
reviews. In 1999, Kayser was awarded a Green Room award in the category
of original score/soundmix for the dance work Fleeting Moments
devised by Yumi Umiumare.
