  Deborah Kayser soprano

Deborah Kayser is a vocalist who has worked consistently in areas as diverse as Early Music and Ensemble singing to Classical Contemporary music and improvisation, providing her with the opportunity to explore new vocal possibilities and develop a new expressive idiom. As a solo guest artist she has performed with Australia’s leading Early Music ensembles, and as a member of both the Elision and Libra Contemporary Ensembles, she tours regularly both within Australia and overseas. With Elision and Libra, Kayser has premiered works by local and overseas composers including Richard Barrett, Volker Heyn, Michael Finnisy, David Young, Chris Dench and Liza Lim.

She has sung in Theatre and Opera roles in works by Richard Vella, Michael Smetanin and Liza Lim, and with the companies Chamber Made, Theatre Works, Elision and Aphids. Last year, Kayser performed the leading role in Lim’s new opera Yue Ling Jie with Elision for the Telstra Adelaide Festival, a role for which she drew rave reviews. In 1999, Kayser was awarded a Green Room award in the category of original score/soundmix for the dance work Fleeting Moments devised by Yumi Umiumare.
